SPRING! :)
 Hi everyone!

Iana-sensei back again.  I'm in a super-duper good mood!  Why you may ask? Well because IT'S finally here! You may wonder what... First of all, parents week is finally here. More precisely - it's already in full swing here at ECM. And secondly, SPRING is finally here! Both in theory and in practice. In theory meaning that today is officially the last day of winter! Yuppie! And in practice because the weather has gotten significantly warmer in the last few days.  Even the nights aren't as cold anymore. As I walked to work today, the sun was shining brightly, a warm wind was blowing and the birds were singing!  So hooray! I love spring!  It's my favorite season for a lot of reasons, meanwhile winter is my least favorite season because I hate the cold and don't like snow either. This is why I'm so excited that spring is finally here.

Spring is also a time for changes and for starting new things and etc. It is in spring that flowers bloom and trees get new leaves.  It is also in spring that the new school/work year starts in Japan, so a lot of people, including many of our students, will be starting new chapters of their life pretty soon. This is both a happy and sad moment for me as an ECM teacher. On the one hand, I'm very happy and  excited for all our students who will start attending new schools in April.  However, on the other hand, some of them have to leave ECM due to moving to a different city or just not having enough time to balance both their new high school life as well as eikaiwa. This is the sad part obviously.

And on the note of change and new start, many of the students who are not leaving ECM had tests this past week or two. Also, there still remain some who will have tests next month. Those who sucessfully pass the test will move on up to a higher level of English class as well as on to new textbooks! So congratulations to those of you who've already passed!  Please continue to work hard in the new school year too!

~Iana.

P.S.:  I took the picture above on my way to buy something for lunch during my break at work today.  Plum trees are currrently in full bloom so I just couldn't resist the beauty.  Next up, we'll all be waiting for sakura to bloom ne?

Parent Meetings Week
 Hi again!

I hope you're all doing great!  The weather is definitely warming up but it's still a wee bit chilly at night so take care not to get sick.  With spring coming, I hope none of you have allergies that are bothering you too much.

As many of you know, Parent Meetings started here at Kudamatsu ECM yesterday and will continue until March 15.  There are still some meeting slots available so please come inside and sign up so you can hear all about your child's progress and the new schedule starting in April.

I also hear graduation ceremonies are coming up next month so congratulations to those of you moving on to bigger and better things :)  I look forward to hearing all about your ceremonies and how they compare to those in Canada.

See you next week!

Ziggy

What's new
 Hi there!

It's Iana.  How are you all doing? The weather's really unstable lately so please be careful not to catch a cold.

On to ECM news: we're still busy preparing for the parents meetings starting next week. As has been mentioned earlier in previous blog entries, starting February 25th all the parents of our students have the opportunity to stop by and find out about their child's English studies progress, improvement and any problems or difficulties he or she might face. Also, if you are considering changing the class your child attends you can also find out what options are avilable for that. Last but not least, you are more than welcome to voice your opinion and any wishes or concerns you might have regarding your child's ECM experience. So please don't miss out on this rare opportunity and sign up for a meeting if you haven't already. We look forward to seeing you next week!

Last but certainly not least, several of our older students have successfully passed the first part of the Eiken test not long ago.  Congratulations once again!  However this means that they now have to prepare for the second part which is the interview or speaking part. There's just a bit of time left, so this week we've been having some private lessons with those students who felt they needed some extra training.  We practiced everything, from how to enter the test room properly, to the interview itself and even how to leave. Many of you seem pretty nervous about Eiken but I truly believe that all of you have what it takes to pass so you'll do just fine!  Don't worry and good luck!

~Iana.

P.S.: Just a quick reminder for those parents who haven't signed up for their meetings yet... As can be seen in the picture above, our meeting schedule is already quite full, so if you haven't written in your name yet, please be sure to do so while there is still a choice of time-slots left.

Parent Meetings
 Hello again!

Please stay warm, it's cold today!  But at least there's no snow like there is in Tokyo!

I hope you all enjoyed Valentine's Day and got/gave chocolate to that special someone in your life ;)

We're busy preparing for parent meetings which start next week and will continue for a few weeks.  There's still time to schedule a meeting so please take the time to come in and do so.  We will be discussing your children's progress, as well as the schedule for the upcoming year.

Take care and have a great week!

Ziggy

Happy Valentine`s Day !!!

 Hello everyone!

Iana here ready to congratulate you.  I`m in a great mood.  The weather is warm and sunny today.  And it`s Valentine`s Day at long last! So congratulations!  Happy Valentine`s Day!  I hope you enjoy it to the max!  Exchange presents, give or get chocolate and spend this special day with the people you truly love.  Be it friends, family, colleagues or a special someone.

We here at ECM already wrapped up our Valentine`s Week, as you know.  In some classes we still play a couple of Valentine`s related games, but even that will finish soon as tomorrow marks 2 weeks since we started Valentine`s activities. So please enjoy the last spurt of it if you get the chance!  It`ll now be a while until another holiday comes around.

Also, as the start of parent-teacher meetings at English Club May is just a mere 8 days away, all us teachers are busy writing reports and commenting on our students` efforts and progress!  So please look forward to that!

~Iana.

P.S.: Also, continuing the Valentine's Day topic, I'd like to post something special today. Being able to speak several languages, I generally consider English to be more of a business type of language. In my eyes it is not as flowery, emotional and beautiful as say French, Arabic or Japanese. Nevertheless, there is one English poem that I absolutely LOVE! It doesn't rhyme much but in my opinion it is beyond beautiful...  So although it has a couple of pretty rare and difficult English words, I would like to share it with you today.

Top of the world.

You don¡Çt know it, but
Sometimes, I go to a hill that overlooks
the landscape¡Çs mask of city lights
For a sip of momentary grace.
On this brink of everything I know, I can gain
An eyeful of the lost Atlantis in the human soul,
And a breath that fills my lungs with the air between two stars.
If right now, you
Were to capture this elation
In the framework of your mind,
Or find transcendence through these words,
Then at most you would know
Nothing
Of the beauty your existence throws to me.
For mine is a love no experience,
No thought, no measure, no words
Could ever degrade into reality by virtue of degree.
